Business Support
The Government has run national support programs for businesses to support businesses, including one of payments of up to £10,000 in the first national lockdown and £9,000 in the third lockdown. This is in addition to up to 100% business rate relief.
Throughout local restrictions, the Government has funded Wigan Council's programmes to provide local restrictions grants to businesses. The Government directed and funded Wigan Council to create a discretionary fund for businesses that didn't meet the eligibility requirements of other support to help make sure that no business went without the support they needed.

Helping those shielding and self-isolating
Our MP and Councillors have been busy help make sure those who are shielding and self isolating can access food and do not become socially isolated.
In Standish, Councillors Adam Marsh and Ray Whittingham worked with a community group to set up a helpline. Led by Cllr Marsh, this helpline has matched people in need with volunteers providing help with everything from food to simply just someone to talk to.
In Orrell, Cllr Michael Winstanley has been regularly collecting food and delivering to his local SDF hub, from where it's distributed to those in need.
Blue Badges
Residents across the borough contacted us as they were having difficulty renewing their Blue Badges and were concerned that they wouldn't be able to park close to supermarkets and shops to get essential items.
Our Councillors and MP launched a campaign to extend the validity of blue badges. This saw the Government extend their validity on public car parks and one of the UK's largest private car park operators agree to accept recently expired blue badges.
